Sainte-Mère-Église Church
Historical Collection – World War II
2,280 bricks • 1 figure • Age 11+

For the first time in COBI history, we present a set that combines World War II history with architecture! The Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church in Sainte-Mère-Église (Normandy, France) gained worldwide fame through the events of June 6, 1944 during D-Day. Soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division were ordered to capture the town. Due to an unfortunate landing, one of them, John Steele, got caught on the church tower. He hung helplessly high above the ground while witnessing the fierce fighting in the town. He survived, despite his injuries. In memory of this, a figure representing John Steele is permanently attached to the tower. Entirely new stained-glass windows featuring paratroopers and related symbols also appeared after the war. Today, the church is a popular destination for tourists and WWII enthusiasts – a symbolic place that commemorates the heroic efforts of the paratroopers and the importance of D-Day.

The model has been carefully recreated with 2,280 COBI building blocks. Characteristic architectural details and the beautiful stained-glass windows commemorating the struggle of the American soldiers are all included. The clock on the tower shows the exact time the American paratroopers landed. Around the church, you’ll find environmental elements and vegetation; next to the church stands a historic water pump where heavy fighting took place. The roof is removable for access to the interior, which you can furnish yourself. The set includes the main protagonist: John Steele with parachute, attached to the corner of the church tower! Build history, brick by brick, with COBI.

Specially released for the 80th anniversary of D-Day (1944–2024), this is an official collector’s set featuring the anniversary logo. A perfect way to keep the memory of this crucial event alive.
