The collector’s EXECUTIVE EDITION of the Pennsylvania class offers two options to build a historic Pennsylvania-class battleship! Thanks to the included extra building blocks with markings and ship parts, you can choose to build the USS Pennsylvania or USS Arizona. Clear and intuitive instructions guide you step by step through the building process. The ship is designed in 1:300 scale and is 61.5 cm long. More than 2,000 pieces provide hours of building fun.
The Executive version also includes a block display stand where you can attach black plates with the technical data and the ship’s name. Using the latest building blocks and advanced construction techniques, the model reflects the proportions of the historic ship as accurately as possible and retains all essential elements, including the original, highly characteristic shape of the hull and superstructure. The model has numerous moving parts such as: propellers, rudders, rotating turrets, and cannons with barrels that can be raised and lowered. The set is a perfect addition to the collection of historic COBI ships.
The USS Pennsylvania and USS Arizona were two battleships launched during World War I. During their service, both ships underwent modernizations. Both Pennsylvania-class ships were present during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the attack on the USS Arizona, a catastrophic explosion occurred. Most of the crew perished and the ship sank, becoming a symbol of the Japanese attack. The wreck of the battleship was never salvaged. The superstructure that protruded above the water was removed, leaving only the barbette of the third main artillery turret above the waterline. In 1962, the USS Arizona Memorial was opened over the wreck.
During the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Pennsylvania was only slightly damaged and served in the Pacific throughout World War II, during which the ship was later modernized. During the Battle of Surigao Strait (October 25, 1944), the Pennsylvania was hit by a torpedo. Severe damage to the propulsion system made repairs uneconomical. In 1946, the obsolete ship was used as a target for nuclear weapons tests.
