The Tiger I was a German heavy tank that first appeared in 1942 near Leningrad and in Tunisia. It was known for its unrivalled firepower and thick armour, which turned it into a true fortress on tracks. Although production was costly and time-consuming, the Tiger grew into an iconic tank that made a huge impression on the battlefield. In total, Tigers destroyed over 10,300 enemy tanks and 11,380 guns, though 1,725 Tigers were also lost.
The most famous Tiger is undoubtedly Tiger 131, which was captured by the British in North Africa in 1943. Today, this unique vehicle can still be admired at The Tank Museum in Bovington (UK), where it is one of the main attractions.
