Historical background
Horch, founded in the early 20th century in Zwickau (Saxony), was known for quality, innovation, and craftsmanship. In 1933, the luxury Horch 830 appeared, followed in 1935 by the Horch 830 B with a more powerful engine and the extended Horch 830 BL.
During World War II, Horch cars were often used by high-ranking German officers. A 1936 Horch 830 BL, originally owned by General Dietrich von Choltitz, fell into Allied hands after the liberation of Paris in 1944.
However, the most famous user became Charles de Gaulle, leader of Free France, and later Prime Minister and President. The Horch 830BL became his favorite vehicle, used during numerous official occasions. The symbol of this vehicle is linked to his role as a statesman and his pursuit of reconciliation. In 1963, De Gaulle signed the Élysée Treaty with Chancellor Adenauer, marking the start of Franco-German cooperation and paving the way for a united Europe.
The original vehicle can be admired today in the Military History Museum in Dresden, fully restored and featuring a French standard with the Cross of Lorraine.
