Historical background
The Eurofighter Typhoon is one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world and was developed by the Eurofighter GmbH consortium (United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Spain). Since its introduction in 2003, the aircraft has been used worldwide for air defense, patrol missions, and attacks on both air and ground targets.
The Typhoon reaches speeds of up to 2,495 km/h and has an operational range of 2,900 km. The Italian Air Force ordered a total of 96 aircraft, delivered between 2004 and 2020. Together with the F-35, the Typhoon forms the backbone of Italian air defense.
