DUKW Amphibia – the legendary “Duck”
To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, COBI is releasing this detailed scale model of the DUKW Amphibia in 1:35 scale. The set features the official logo of the commemorations in France and consists of 508 high-quality parts. Thanks to the robust prints (no stickers!), the details remain scratch and wear-resistant, even during intensive play.
The vehicle is equipped with rolling wheels and a spacious cargo area full of accessories: crates, barrels, jerry cans, a spare wheel, and even barbed wire elements. The included American soldier has an impressive arsenal of weapons and equipment, including a bazooka, Browning, Garand, Thompson, M1 rifle, and binoculars. This makes the set not only realistic but also extra playable!
History of the DUKW
The DUKW, nicknamed the “Duck”, was an amphibious transport vehicle used by the US Army from 1942. Based on a GMC truck design, it featured a drive system that allowed it to move on both land and water. The vehicle could carry up to 25 soldiers or 2.25 tons of cargo, with speeds of approx. 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h in water.
The DUKW played a crucial role during amphibious landings, transport missions, and operations in flooded areas. After the war, the vehicle was still used in Korea and Vietnam and even for civilian purposes such as tourism and rescue operations. Today, the DUKW is considered an icon of the Second World War, found in museums, memorials, and re-enactment events worldwide.
